St. John Neumann Catholic Church – Called, Formed, Sent Parish School of Religion (PSR) Family Registration Form – Pre-school through 8th Grade Dear Parent, We are blessed that you have chosen to join with us in your family’s faith journey as together we live out our parish mission to make disciples of Jesus. We are all called to be disciples. In order to answer that call and to develop in our faith, we must continually surrender our lives to Jesus, moving closer to Him and inviting others to do the same. Trends show that when parents continue to develop their own faith as adults and model faith to their children, as the children grow into adulthood, they are more likely to keep practicing their faith. Along these lines, we want to build on the foundation that was started last year. For our families who have children in our Parish School of Religion (PSR) faith formation program here at SJN, we are asking all parents to join their child in faith formation. That is, as your child goes through the most formative years in their faith development, you also continue faith formation as an adult and their parent. Therefore, parents can expect St. John Neumann Parish to offer a variety of opportunities for them to develop their own faith in order to pass the faith to their children. Likewise, the parish expects parents to be invested and involved in their own faith development in order to serve as models for their children in the following ways of faith: 1) Catholic Parents are living their Catholic Faith by attending weekly Mass, as well as engaging in daily prayer and frequenting the sacrament of Reconciliation; 2) Both Parents are growing in their Catholic/Christian Faith by attending Alpha, Discipleship Groups or other on-going adult faith formation year by year; 3) The family is serving others in the mission of the Church; 4) The family is a registered member of St. John Neumann, giving regularly via the offertory. So, what does this mean for you? Good things! During the PSR years of your child, we are asking you to engage in adult faith formation. Particularly, and at the very least, during your child’s Sacramental year (First Communion & Confirmation), you will be asked to meet the requirement of adult faith formation. Currently, we are completing the 2016-17 Adult Faith Formation calendar. Details are coming this summer or fall on registration for programs of your choice. Families with students preparing to receive First Communion or Confirmation will receive additional information and agreement forms in July. Why are we doing this? Simple. You love your children and God and His Church loves your children. You want them to grow in love with Jesus and deepen their faith, and we want this for them and for you. We know, too, that the best way to make this happen in a sustainable and lifelong journey is to help you grow more in love with Jesus, too. Here at SJN, this is easy. We have so many options for helping our adults grow spiritually and grow together in community. If you have any questions along the way, please don’t hesitate to contact our Directors of PSR, Confirmation & High School Youth, Adult Faith Formation, or Jennifer Glassmire – the Faith Formation Administrative Assistant. If none of the options we offer are viable, or you have any concerns about what we are proposing to help your entire family grow in faith, please contact one of us or the pastor. We want to help and will work with you. We don’t want this to be an imposition, but a proposition for something wonderful for the good of your family and the growth of your faith. Thank you for raising your children as Christians in our Catholic Faith. They are a gift from God. We are here to walk alongside of them and you to help your family grow in holiness, as we all strive to be His disciples and make disciples of Jesus Christ.
