5th Annual Healing Voices Literary Contest
Contest Theme:
Compassion
compassion

a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow
for another who is stricken by
misfortune, accompanied by a strong
desire to alleviate the suffering.
Details:
Write a poem, essay or short story highlighting the theme of compassion.
› All works should be no longer than one page in length.
› Prose should be no longer than approximately 500 words.
› All entries must be typed in 12 point Times New Roman font.
› Poems may be formatted in any way you like, as long as they follow the guidelines listed above.
› Do not include images.
› All work must be submitted digitally as a Word document.
› No more than three entries per author.
Deadline
› All entries must be original works and must not have previously been published.
Extended
Deadline: Submission opens February 13, 2017. All entries must be submitted by April 9, 2017.

Prizes:
Entries will be anonymously reviewed by a panel of judges. Winning entries will be available to view on
the AHS intranet and MSU College of the Arts webpage.
Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place. Additional merit awards may be given in special
categories.
Contest is open to all employees, volunteers and medical staff members of Atlantic Health System
and all faculty, staff and students of Montclair State University.
