7 Sunday In Ordinary Time: Year A
TH
When people involved in conflict respond to an act of aggression with a similar level of aggression, the conflict is perpetuated. In
some long-running conflicts, for example between neighbours or in families, the original act which started the conflict is long
forgotten as the conflict becomes an end in itself. Jesus offers an approach to aggression that implicitly involves forgiving the
offender, and showing that forgiveness by offering more than was being taken. When we have been hurt or wronged our first
reaction can be to seek revenge in some way, and it is that response which perpetuates and entrenches the conflict. The
generous response which Jesus advocates may not be the first response to come to mind in the heat of the moment or if we
have been brooding on a wrong or hurt for a long time. If we choose not to react immediately, a space is created for a response
which is not rooted in revenge. Taking a short time to pray and reflect may more easily lead to a response which forgives and
gifts something to the offender. But what we do in the space is critical, because if the focus is on the wrong and the wrongdoer,
the time can quickly become a period of brooding on the wrong done to us. The emotion generated by brooding may lead to
an action which is explosive and damaging, and out of proportion to the offence. Jesus calls us to forgiveness. Forgiveness
does not prevent us from being assertive in explaining to the offender how we feel about their action, but it does involve letting
go of the wrong done to us. Jesus’ proposal that we gift something to the offender is an act which will often be illuminating for
the offender. It may lead to reconciliation which revenge will seldom do.

Principals Piece:
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
A big thank you to all those who supported and volunteered with our Year 4-8 swimming sports and water fun
day for the Juniors. Both events were run exceptionally well and the children had loads of fun. It is important to
remember that children are competing at all levels and should be encouraged to participate in as many races as
possible irrespective of winning. Children acquire points for their house by participating.
BOT update: Congratulations to Pat Peoples who was voted in again as chairperson with Dave Pitchford and
Penny Vergeest sharing the Deputy chair's role. Today you will see a joint community notice come home from
the Diocese and the BOT. This is around our property plan and proposed redevelopment of our school. On our
website we will dedicate a section to information regarding property developments.
School accounts have gone out and we ask that you please make some payments towards these. If you are
unable to pay it in full please contact Vicki and pay things off during the year as this helps everyone concerned.
We will be adding a $7 charge to the Yr 0-3 account, apologies for the lateness of this. This is so our Junior
school can run Seesaw again as it was a free trial last year. With the children moving in and out of classrooms
each teacher needs the ability to access every childs account.
I hope all the Yr 7 & 8 children, teachers and parents who are going on camp have a fantastic 3 days of
adventure. We look forward to hearing about the experiences you have shared with each other.
There are a number of children arriving before 8am, we ask that children arrive at school from 8am for health
and safety reasons. Also, we require children to be collected promptly after school, 2.45pm, if for any reason you
are late could you please ring into the office to let us know.
All children will need their hat to be outside. No Hat No Play. Children are asked to keep sunscreen in their bag
and apply it when necessary during the day. We ask for your help and support with these requests.
We will be taking a close eye on school uniform this term, so please make sure your child/ren are wearing
correct uniform and if they haven't, they need a note for the teacher. Girls need plain color hair ties, plain studs
for earrings and girls skirts need to be a correct length. Roman sandals for shoes and hair should be tied up
nicely if required. Please check with your child's teacher if you have any questions.
On Monday 6th March we have an AIMS Games Information evening for Year 7&8 parents to be held in Room 1
at 6pm.
St Joseph’s Parish

SCHOOL FOCUS
LIBRARY NEWS
We are now 3 weeks into Term 1 and all the classrooms have visited the library to issue books. It is
great to see the students taking advantage of being able to issue more than 2 books at a time.
With the support of our school PTFA we are fortunate to have many lovely books in our library. On this
note in the last couple of years there has been an increase in the number of books being returned to
school damaged by leaking drink bottles and food in school bags. This is particularly noticeable in the
Yr 4-8 group of students who choose to no longer use their Library Book Bags. This year we are asking
that all students from Yr 0-8 must have a Book Bag of some sort to protect the books they are issuing
from the library. This can be any type of waterproof bag.
Don’t have time to visit the Public Library during the week? Would you like your child to have more
books to read at home? This year we are opening the library to families of the school.
Parents/caregivers will be able to issue books from the library.
The library will be open to parents on Mon and Wed morning from 8.15 am – 9.30am and Tues afternoon
2.00pm – 2.30pm.
If you are interested in sharing our
wonderful school library please
contact me for further details by email
– [email protected] or feel
free to pop into the library and talk to
me personally.
Look out for these new books in the
library. Thank you to the PTFA and
their continued support in helping
purchase new books for our library.
