My favorite Pilsner west of the Rockies. 6 Lyons, Illinois. These guys are just crushing it! I’ve yet to have a beer from LAGUNITAS, IPA INDIA PALE ALE Petaluma, California. The original West Coast India Pale Ale. A hoppy Ale them that I didn’t love. No matter which of their delicious libations we have on tap, I guarantee you’re going to love it. And they’re right in our celebrating the British trade routes to India. But who cares about history, sweetheart? Just pour my beer and grab me a curry puff. ‘hood, so you know it’s fresh. ALLAGASH, WHITE WHEAT ALE TWO BROTHERS, DOMAINE DUPAGE FRENCH COUNTRY ALE Portland, Maine. My personal Cicerone calls Allagash White the undisputed “best” wheat beer in the United States. We love it too! This lively brew tickles our fancy. P.S. What he doesn’t know is that without him, this list wouldn’t be possible. REVOLUTION ROTATING CAN 6 Warrenville, Illinois. Caramel malt, spice & toffee. This artisan beer makes me want to go to the French countryside and one day maybe to Dupage County. Just kidding! Sometimes we want to be the local hero, but let’s never be afraid to double fist. A salute, in which Well, this Belgian-style trippel comes in at 9.5 ABV, and drinking two brings out the playful monkey in all of us. we rise o’er shoulders with tin vessels in hand, to all the frayed and furrowed pointing to this exact moment in time. In the wake of the Great Chicago Fire in 1871, Schlitz brewery sent hundreds of barrels of beer to support Chicago. That’s one heckuva neighbor. We’re in. Madison, Wisconsin. Ale Asylum had a “one and done” rule with this Belgian IPA, so if the first batch wasn’t amazing, the beer went down the drain. If you’re not a fan of this one, you may belong in an asylum. (See what we did there?) Spring Lake, Michigan. A newbie on the brew scene in 2006, we love the semi-sweet nature of this Michigan cider. Though the traditional is our favorite from this local cider mill, we couldn’t resist variety -- it’s the spice of life! Petaluma, California. A little poetic license from the brewmaster, “Wheaty-esque-ish-ness” my sources confirm, 3 types of wheat & all the “C” hops. The result, a hazy slightly bitter ale and a very pretty girl. ORIGINAL SIN, PEAR CIDER PERRY 7 7 ISLAND, MATILDA BELGIAN PALE ALE 6.5 GOOSE Chicago, Illinois. My pal, Founder Greg Hall, makes lots of beer, but New York, New York. Apples and oranges? How about apples and pears? With a crisp, dry finish thanks to a healthy dose of champagne yeast, this delicious concoction straddles a fine line between cider and wine. I'm not complaining. TWO BROTHERS, PRAIRIE PATH GOLDEN ALE this one is my favorite. Why? Just because, because Matilda makes me want to dance. TALLGRASS, 8-BIT PALE ALE 7.5 Warrenville, Illinois. How can it be, it’s gluten free? Who cares, come on, this beer is simply delicious. The brothers have done it again! I hear they’re working on a beer to end the curse on the Cubs. Manhattan, Kansas. Remember the neighbor kid who always wanted to play your Atari but would just get mad because he could never win? Don't be that guy. Be the guy who knows when he takes that controller in hand, nothing can stop him. Only now, instead of a joystick, you're holding a tallboy. And instead of breaking the high score, you're breaking all the rules. bad boy was so popular that it's now being brewed 6 months a year! Salty, sour (but not too sour), and insanely refreshing--and it's only 4.2%. Go ahead, have another. Madison, Wisconsin. A West Coast twist on a traditional American Amber, this brew from our neighbors to the North is 100% gimmick-free. Water, malts, hops, and yeast. That's it! And that goes for every beer they have to offer. Rejoice in the refined simplicity. and we couldn't be happier about it. A traditional wheat beer brewed with a healthy dose of fresh watermelon adds up to one 'hella'-tasty brew. Could the puns get any cheesier? Chicago, Illinois. Another expertly crafted brew from Moody Tongue. Both a great introduction to IPAs for rookies and a welcome twist on the style for seasoned vets, you can't go wrong with this brew. The nectarines mellow out the bitterness for an incredibly drinkable IPA. ANDERSON VALLEY, THE KIMMIE, THE YINK & THE HOLY GOSE 6.5 ALE ASYLUM, AMBERGEDDON AMERICAN AMBER Booneville, California. Originally intended to be a one-time brew, this 21ST AMENDMENT, HELL OR HIGH WATERMELON WHEAT BEER 7 MOODY TONGUE, SLICED NECTARINE IPA AMERICAN IPA San Francisco, California. These guys are brand new to the midwest, MOODY TONGUE, STEEPED EMPEROR’S LEMON SAISON 7.5 OFF COLOR, SCURRY DARK HONEY ALE Chicago, Illinois. Jared Rouben, brewmaster at Moody Tongue, is taking everything he learned working in kitchens and applying it to craft beer, creating some of the most interesting, well-balanced beers in the city. A lemon drop cookie in liquid form. VICTORY, PRIMA PILS 7.5 6.5 Chicago, Illinois. In the words of Peabo Bryson, “The line between greatness and obscurity is very, very small.” Have you ever heard of a Kottbusser-style beer? Well, you have now. Sweet honey and molasses with a dry finish. Try this more obscure German style beer and taste how it feels to cross the line into greatness. 6.5 GREEN FLASH, HOP HEAD DOUBLE RED IPA 8 Downingtown, Pennsylvania. The term 'Prima' is a German exclamation of joy, and it was the first word that came to mind for the boys over at Victory upon tasting their newest creation for the first time. I'm more of a 'Huzzah' guy myself, but I may just have to change my tune. San Diego, California. If this was Fight Club I’d say buckets of Amarillo hops beating down caramel rich malts, everyone was happy, high fives all around, tell no-one! Madison, Wisconsin. This hefewizen is exclusive to Wisconsin and Illinois, and we'd be lying if we said we didn't like the exclusivity. Expect all of the banana and lemon you'll usually find in a hefe. Expect to crush this before your burger hits the table. Bend, Oregon. The folks over in Oregon loved this IPA so much in the brewery they decided to share with you. Part of their Bond Street Series, this super citrusy IPA will leave you satisfied from the first whiff ‘til the last drop. That's right, I said whiff...it's absolutely OK to smell a beer when it's this good. And even more OK to drink it. ALE ASYLUM, UNSHADOWED HEFEWEIZEN 6.5 DESCHUTES, FRESH SQUEEZED IPA OFF COLOR, APEX PREDATOR FARMHOUSE ALE 7.5 Chicago, Illinois. You’re your own (wo)man. You make your own decisions. You’re the head of your pride. So why not reward yourself with a beer whose wild nature suits your own? Natural sugars, grains, and yeasts are free to roam in this farmhouse ale, finished by a dry-hopped, fruity goodness. Be the king of your concrete jungle, and let yourself go. DOGFISH HEAD, NAMASTE WITBIER Kansas City, Missouri. KC’s finest brewery knocks it out of the park with this stellar farmhouse ale. Fruity, big & peppery. 7.5 San Diego, California. If you haven't tried this one out yet, do it now...and consider moving out from underneath the rock that you've been living under for the past couple of years while you're at it. The best IPA on the market. Period. 21ST AMENDMENT, BREW FREE OR DIE AMERICAN IPA 7 Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Crisp citrus hits the tongue gently with this refreshing witbier from the not-so-far East, leading one to remark with a subtle, “Ommm.” Sit back, let your chakras realign and be at peace, friend. BOULEVARD, TANK 7 FARMHOUSE ALE BALLAST POINT, SCULPIN AMERICAN IPA 6.5 8.5 TWO BROTHER’S, EBEL’S WEISS HEFEWEIZEN 7 San Francisco, California. I haven't been this excited about a new IPA in quite some time, but the gents over at 21st Amendment have restored my faith in the style, and possibly even humanity itself. Beer this good should be a sin. JP’S, CASPER WHITE STOUT 6.5 BOULEVARD, THE SIXTH GLASS QUADRUPEL 8.5 Steven’s Point, Wisconsin. I know what you're thinking: 'A white stout?' While it may look like a pale ale, this beer is packed with everything you love about stouts and then some...and by 'then some,' I mean white chocolate. Looks certainly can be deceiving. Warrenville, Illinois. Clove, vanilla & banana scent this rich Bavarian Hefeweizen. I’m just happy I don’t have to wear lederhosen in Lakeview. Kansas City, Missouri. 'Do you know what dwells in a glass?' In this case, you've got yourself a delicious Belgian Quad from Boulevard's renowned Smokestack Series. Sweet caramel malts, candi sugar, plums, raisins...but don't drink it too fast! At 10.5%, you certainly won't make it to your sixth. Bedford Park, Illinois. This heavenly nectar has everything that you love about classic European pilsners, just with more of it (including booze). Perfectly balanced and incredibly drinkable, there's almost always a sixer of these in my fridge. Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. 60 minute, 90 minute, who’s got the time? When I’m thirsty, my fishfinder leads me to Indian Brown Ale, rich with molasses and coffee. Dry-hopped like the minute brews, you won’t miss a hop. Lyons, Colorado. There's no question that the fellas over at Oskar Blues know their hops, so when word got out that they were releasing a session IPA, my tastebuds started dreaming of the possibilities...needless to say, I was not disappointed. Denver, Colorado. No snow? No worries, let's drink! Vanilla, chocolate, toasted nuts. I get it. Dessert all night long! Hey where's my condo? They all look the same... 7 5 RABBIT, GRINGOLANDIA SUPER PILS PILSNER OSKAR BLUES, PINNER THROWBACK IPA SESSION DOGFISH HEAD, INDIAN BROWN ALE 6.5 BRECKENRIDGE, VANILLA PORTER FOUNDERS, ALL DAY IPA ALLAGASH, BLACK BELGIAN STYLE STOUT 7 6 8.5 Grand Rapids, Michigan. What's in a name? In this case, an entire day of drinking one of the most refreshing brews I've ever had. Not a single ounce of flavor is sacrificed in Founders' effort to dial back the notch on the classic IPA formula. Sit back, enjoy, and have another! Portland, Maine. While you've been busy drinking Allagash White, its darker side has been riding the pine, singing John Fogerty's 'Centerfield' to itself all summer long. It's time to step up to the plate, as Allagash knocks this Belgian-Style stout out of the park with loads of dark chocolate and roasted coffee. Ft. Bragg, California. I’m a spell-check guy and this “Q” was killing me until I put it in the “Google”. Genius! This fine belgian ale comes up 1st and 4x before the Chico, CA 60’s & 70’s folk rock cover band of the same name. Talk about web dominance. Longmont, Colorado. Quite possibly America’s best milk stout! A double gold medal winner. Robust malt & coffee flavors, a bit of milk, sugar, flaked oats and chocolate round out this dark brew and certainly satisfy all of your breakfast nutritional needs.
