Twenty years ago, with the help of parents and other
supporters, the E.E. Delaney Foundation spear-headed
the effort to build an athletic field, track, and stadium for St.
Paul’s Episcopal School students. Since that time, 200
visitor seats and more than 500 additional home seats
have been added to the stadium. In addition, a dedicated
field house honoring long-time coach, Jim Tate, now
houses the cross country and track programs.
These “growing pains” are the direct result of the
increasing number of talented students, inspiring coaches
and outstanding athletic programs. The 8’x 17’ one room
structure hardly accommodated the officials, announcers,
clock keepers, sound producers, camera crews, home
and visiting coaches, not to mention radio and television
broadcasters.
Once again, support from the E.E. Delaney Foundation
spear-headed the effort to replace the existing Press Box
with a much larger and more efficient one. The new 82’ x
14’ building has six rooms and provides the mechanical
functions needed to accurately and effectively broadcast
activities in the stadium. Continuing founder
E.E. Delaney’s vision for St. Paul’s, the athletic facilities
available for students and visitors are second to none.
Other long-time St. Paul’s supporters, Mr. and Mrs. Robert
E. Bickert also significantly contributed to building the
Press Box. Previously, the Bickert’s made a significant

gift to SPS to build the
girls’ softball field.

that all of our student
athletes train and
compete in facilities
that enable them to
achieve their greatest
potential.
