Sports clubs in and around Copenhagen
In this file, you can read about different kinds of sports activities. Sports in Denmark are a great way to not
only stay active, but also meet new people. Sports clubs in Denmark are based around communities, rather
than schools, so it is an ideal way to get involved with those living around you. If you like to meet new
people, you should definitely try joining a sport club and hopefully it will be something that you will enjoy!!
This booklet can serve as your reference if you are interested in joining a sport. We hope this makes it easy
for you to join a club.
If you need any help signing up for a club, don’t be afraid to contact those in charge. They are there to help
you.
Your responsibility
DIS expects that when you sign up for an activity, you are showing up at training and for the games that you
signed up for. These sports clubs are DIS partners and we expect that you respect them.
DIS Sport stipend
When you join an activity, DIS will support you with the DIS Sports stipend at 150 DKK. To get the DIS Sports
stipend, please go to the DIS Front Desk and show them the receipt. (You can only get the stipend one
time)
How to get a certificate to compete in tournaments.
When you join a team in Denmark, and you have played tournaments in the US, you will need a certificate!
This is not required for all sport activities, but it is important that you tell your new club about it anyway,
because they can tell you if you need one to participate in tournaments for them.
This is how you get the certificate:
Your new club in Denmark has to contact its federation (e.g. The Danish Soccer Federation, DBU - Dansk
bold union) so they can apply for the certificate in your old club (your club in the states) When they receive
the certificate, they will send it to your new club. Please remember that you can join the club without a
certificate, but you are not allowed to participate in any official tournaments, also please note that if you
play 3 different activities in the States and you want to play all of them in Denmark, you will need 3
certificates, one for each.

Sport associations
These associations offer a broad variety of sports for primarily students in Copenhagen
USG Studenteridræt (non-profit student sports Nørrebo)
USG- Non-profit Student Sports on Nørrebro.
USG provides a casual forum for active students of all experience levels.
USG offers a wide variety of sports - so you should be able to find a sport that suits you.
USG has a short summer season (May, June, August) and a long main season (September-April), and most
classes practice once a week with one specific trainer.
USG gives you the best chance to get to know the active Dane as well as students from many other
countries.

American football, badminton, basketball, futsal, handball, volleyball, ballet, burlesque, capoeira,
hiphop/house, jazz, modern dance, show dance, crossfit, pilates, yoga, gymnastics, martial arts, swimming
(all levels), water polo, adventure racing, sea kayaking, climbing, running, roller skiing, mountain biking,
kayaking trips, ski courses etc.

CBS Sport is an organization, made with the purpose to add more life to the CBS campus through sports
activities. Here you have an opportunity to play all kinds of sports, at student friendly prices and you do not

American Football
Herlev Rebels
American Football in Denmark is an amateur sport, based on clubs providing youth, adult tackle, and flag
football teams.
Herlev Rebels have both flag and tackle teams in the best divisions playing for the national championship.
The Rebels are welcoming players (college, high school or no experience) who are looking to play while in
Denmark.
We offer both 11-man football for the serious athlete and 9-man football for those just wanting to play.
We also offer Flag Football.
Playing football at the Rebels is Free for DIS students and you can borrow the equipment except for football
shoes. It is not a violation of NCAA eligibility, and it’s FUN!

If you live in or near Roskilde, then Kings is a great team to join.
Roskilde Kings takes its players seriously and in an effort to raise and maintain the most professional
standards possible for the Roskilde Kings, the Board deems it necessary to hold players personally
responsible for adhering to certain important policies set forth in our team policies. The Roskilde Kings is
still, however, a team focused on the social and fun part of the sport. They even have coffee and cake at
halftime! And if you ever been to Roskilde Festival, you might have met some of the team members,
because every year they help out at Roskilde Festival.

Softball
Softball Copenhagen Cougars
Copenhagen Cougars is one of many softball clubs in Denmark, but only one of 2 clubs in Copenhagen.
Cougars is a new softball club with so far 1 women's team, playing in the highest division in Denmark.
We have a great coach from Holland, who is also coach for a softball 2. division men’s team in Gladsaxe.
The women's team has a few Danish national team players and also some new players with little
experience – so it’s a bit of a mix of levels. The team is a very open and welcoming team with a great team
spirit and social life, providing several social events during the year such as parties, slow pitch evenings,
weekend trips/tournaments etc.
We would love to see you for a practice, to see if you like our spirit!

Nørrebro climbing Club
Nørrebro Klatreklub (NKK) is situated in the center of Copenhagen (Nørrebro) and offers a great training
facility to climbers of all levels. NKK concentrates primarily on bouldering, but we also have an indoor high
wall and an outdoor facility (Bannanapark). We have more than 400 members and are one of the biggest

If you want to try rowing, you should try the Danish students Rowing Club; it’s a great place for you and
maybe a friend. DSR is the abbreviation of Danske Studenters Roklub - literally, the Danish Students Rowing

Sparta
Do you like to run? Then Sparta is the place for you to choose! Sparta is Denmark’s biggest athletic- and
running club. We run in many different paces, so there will always be a group that runs in the same pace as
you do.
Our strength training facilities are free, when you are a member.
You don’t have to be a member, to train with Sparta. We also offer free training Sundays 9.30 am from 12
August - 2 September + 4 November - 12 May). At these trainings we run longer distances, but still in

ØKF
Soccer is a great way to meet Danes and experience the culture surrounding this game. In ØKF we’ve
received American students each season for several years, including them on our teams and in the social
life of the club.
We have 7- and 11-aside teams for both men and women playing on different levels, so everyone with just
a bit of experience should fit in to one our teams. Doing other activities outside of soccer, such as
teambuilding trips and parties, is a big thing in ØKF and after games we usually have a beer or two.

Our club comprises teams in every age group from 6 years and upwards. We have four U17, one U19 and
four adult teams training 2 or 3 days a week; all teams play in the Danish FA tournaments on Saturdays or
Sundays. We also have a professional team, HB Køge, with three North American players in the squad. We
play on 8 full-size natural grass pitches from April thru October; in the winter we have an artificial grass and
a clay pitch. Full membership is DKK 900 every half year; if you have played in a registered club before, we
will need your player certificate.
Køge is situated 40 km south of Copenhagen and is easily reached by car or public transport. It takes
approximately 35 minutes by train from the Copenhagen Central Station.

Copenhagen Squash Club (KSK) is Denmark’s oldest squash club. The club was established back in
November 1942. KSK has 3 lanes located in Copenhagen, and there is around 500 active members using

København Volleyball klub
KV61 is a volleyball club placed in Copenhagen at the center of Østerbro. It is our vision to be a strong
volleyball club, both with regards to social- and volley related activities. Our members are mainly students,
quite a few from abroad, and all together we are different individuals, but we all share the joy of volleyball.
We have male, female and mixed teams in different levels. All teams play at competition level - some even

Mette Ørum has an international Yoga Certificate and her own studio where students from all over the
world come to share the interests for yoga practice as well as philosophy and meditation.
Once she lived in the States with an Indian Guru, to study the wisdom of yoga, philosophy and meditation.
She has also been studying in India and Paris. She used to travel worldwide to teach students in yoga.
