make us a true faith community.
Let us commit ourselves to be wise stewards of these gifts, to develop
them responsibly, to share them in practice and in love with others, and to
return them with increase to You, our loving God.
Let us pledge to continue our ongoing formation as stewards
and to lead others to answer this call.
We pray that You who have begun this good work in us
will bring it to fulfillment in Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Lighting of the Advent Wreath Announcement
From November 13, 2016 to December 4, 2016
For Catholics, Advent is a liturgical season of
four weeks in anticipation of Christmas Day, the
celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ,
“Light of the World”.
In keeping with St. Andrew’s tradition, we welcome
Parishioners to participate in the lighting of an
Advent Wreath Candle at each Mass during the
season of Advent.
Parishioners wishing to participate in our tradition
are asked to sign up after Mass in the Baptistery. As
you exit the Church onto Raymond, the Baptistery is
on you LEFT side of the vestibule.

Official Archdiocesan Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe
to Visit St. Andrew!
Please join us as we welcome the image of Our Lady of
Guadalupe with a very special mass on Friday, December 2 at
7:00pm in the church. The image will leave St. Andrew Saturday
morning to meet Archbishop Jose Gomez at East Los Angeles
College for the Annual Archdiocese Procession and Mass which
will take place on Sunday Dec. 4th.

No matter how you handle Christmas gifts, you’re likely to have
to go to the mall with your kids during the holiday season. In
the midst of the crowds, children can easily become separated
from their parents. Be alert in crowds and maintain awareness of
what others around you are doing. Institute the buddy system –
have your kids hold your hand or one another’s. Talk with your
children about what to do, and who to go to for help, should
you become separated. Also, it is important to give your child
your cell phone number so mall security can contact you quickly

Archbishop Gomez was elected vice president of the U.S.
Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB)
During the bishops’ annual fall General Assembly, our Archbishop was elected to a three-year term and succeed Cardinal Daniel
N. DiNardo of Galveston-Houston, who was elected USCCB president. The new president and vice president’s terms begin at the
conclusion of the General Assembly, November 16. Below is the Archbishop’s statement on the Election as Vice President of the United

I am honored and humbled by this election. And I am grateful to my brother bishops for their confidence in me.
This is really about the whole family of God in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, not only me. I think this is recognition that the Church
is alive and growing in Los Angeles and that we are doing great things in spreading the Gospel and serving our brothers and sisters in
need.
I also think this is a recognition of how important Latino Catholics are to the growth and the future of the Church.
So I look forward to working with my friend, Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, and all my brother bishops, to serve the family of God here in the
United States.
I am especially looking forward to working on the Fifth Encuentro and the Convocation on the Joy of the Gospel in the Americas.
Both of these initiatives will bring great blessings to our Church and will help us to inspire and raise up a new generation of missionary
disciples.
It is also a joy and a blessing that my brother, Auxiliary Bishop Robert Barron of Los Angeles, was elected today to be the chairman of
the bishops’ Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis. I am happy for him and I know he will help the bishops do great things to
advance the Church’s mission.
These are challenging times for the Church in our society. But we go with God and every Catholic knows that we have a great mission —
to share the good news about God and to tell our brothers and about his mercy and his beautiful plan for our lives and our world.
We also need to continue our important work so that our society respects the sanctity and dignity of every human person — from the
child in the womb, to the immigrant who does not have “papers,” to the elderly and the terminally ill.
So I am entrusting everything to Our Lady of Guadalupe and I am grateful for this chance to proclaim the joy of the Gospel and help
build God’s Kingdom here in the United States and throughout the Americas.

St. Vincent de Paul & St. Andrew’s Annual Christmas Toy Drive and
Food Collection December 10th & 11th
St. Andrew parishioners, friends, and visitors are invited to bring an
unwrapped toy or make a donation of funds—such as gift cards, for a gift
to be given to an infant, girl, or boy, up to age 12, or non-perishable food
items for those in need on Saturday, December 10th at the 5:00pm Mass
and at all the Masses on Sunday, December 11th. All gifts will be brought
to the Altar during the time of the reception of the gifts.
Gift suggestions are: board games, stuffed animals, backpacks,
basketballs, etc. Food items can be canned vegetables, soups, 1-2 lb.
pack of pasta, rice or beans, and any money donations are appreciated.
Your generous contributions in past years have helped many families,
children, and the homeless. During this year over 10,000 people have
received either help throughout the year from your donations.
The St. Vincent de Paul conference here at St. Andrew, was the first in
the San Gabriel area and was founded here in 1926. Many people have
helped with their generous donations of gifts, time, and funds. Please
continue to support our parish and keep our brothers and sisters who
need our help in mind.
Christmas will be soon upon us. We will conduct signups for Christmas
baskets and toy distribution to needy families. The signups will be at the
Pastoral Center as follows:

Dear God, the “Year of Mercy
Jubilee” has allowed us to focus
to be more compassionate,
showing forgiveness and kindly
forbearance toward our offender.
We ask for your Mercy and so
we too must be Merciful to
our offender as you showed
Mercy toward Peter when he
wept after his betrayal; when
Judas betrayed you and at your
crucifixion, you showed Mercy
to the repentant thief next to
you and asked God the Father:

Dear God, for the rest of our lives,
help us to continue to be Merciful
and to expand our Mercy with an

St. Elizabeth Church in Altadena is hosting an ADVENT MORNING on SATURDAY, DECEMBER 3RD with FR. PATRICK
CROWLEY. Fr. Pat is a well known retreat leader and conference speaker and he brings a holistic approach to the
ministry of healing.
Your parishioners are invited to join us for this special morning. We will begin with breakfast in the courtyard of the
parish center at 8:30 am followed by praise & worship, inspiring talks, prayer ministry and our Closing Liturgy will start
at 12:30 pm. The Heart of Jesus Music Ministry, from Incarnation Church in Glendale, will provide the music for the
morning.

Para los católicos, el Adviento es una temporada
litúrgica de cuatro semanas en anticipación al Día de
Navidad, la celebración del nacimiento de Jesucristo, la
"Luz del Mundo".
De acuerdo con la tradición de la parroquia San Andrés,
invitamos a los feligreses a participar en la iluminación
de una vela de corona de Adviento en cada Misa
durante la temporada de Adviento.
Los feligreses que deseen participar en nuestra tradición
se les pide que por favor se inscriban después de la
Misa en el Baptisterio. El Baptisterio está en el lado
izquierdo del vestíbulo al salir de la Iglesia hacia la calle
Raymond.

Campaña Hacia Nuestros Techos - Leaky Roof
Muchas gracias a nuestros feligreses por apoyar
generosamente!
Nuestra Campaña de Nuestro Techo ya esta en efecto,
hemos recaudado $7,000!
Todos hemos trabajado incansablemente para llegar a la
meta de $60,000. Los cuales son necesarios para reparar
los techos, muchas gracias!
Por favor, apoye a nuestra parroquia en el aumento de
60k hacia nuestro techo en nuestra iglesia y también en
la escuela. Su generosidad en ayudarnos en alcanzar
nuestro objetivo antes de Navidad es un don que
podemos usar para compartir en la restauración de la
casa del Señor, su hogar de oración y adoración. Los
sobres para hacer una donación a la campaña Leaky
Roof están disponibles en las bancas.

Andrés Y San Vicente de Paul, el 10
y 11 de Diciembre
Se invita a los feligreses de San Andrés,
amigos y visitantes a traer un juguete
sin envolver o hacer una donación de
fondos como una tarjeta de regalos –
para un regalo que se dará a una niña
o niño, hasta los 12 años de edad, o
de alimentos para los necesitados, el
sábado, 10 de diciembre en la misa
de 5:00pm y en todas las misas del
Domingo 11 de diciembre. Todos los
regalos serán llevados ante el altar
durante el momento de la recepción de
los dones.
Sugerencias de regalos son: juegos de
mesa, peluches, mochilas, balones de
baloncesto, etc. Los alimentos pueden
ser enlatados, sopas, 1.2 lb. Paquete de
pasta, arroz o frijoles, y las donaciones
de dinero son muy apreciados.
Sus generosas contribuciones en los
últimos años han ayudado a muchas
familias, los niños y las personas sin
hogar. Durante este año más de 10,000
personas han recibido ayuda gracias a
sus donaciones!
La conferencia de San Vicente de Paúl
aquí en San Andrés fue el primero en
el área de San Gabriel y fue fundada
aquí en 1926. Muchas personas han
ayudado con sus generosas donaciones
de regalos, tiempo y fondos. Por favor,
seguir apoyando a nuestra parroquia
y mantener a nuestros hermanos y
hermanas que necesitan nuestra ayuda

Declaración sobre la elección como vicepresidente de la
Conferencia Católica de Obispos de Estados Unidos

Me siento honrado con esta elección. Y estoy agradecido con mis
hermanos obispos por su confianza en mí.
Esto se trata realmente sobre toda la familia de Dios en la
Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles, no sólo de mí. Yo creo que éste es
un reconocimiento de que la Iglesia está viva y creciendo en Los
Ángeles y que estamos haciendo grandes cosas para expandir el
Evangelio y servir a nuestros hermanos y hermanas necesitados.
También creo que es un reconocimiento a lo importante que son los
católicos latinos en el crecimiento y el futuro de la Iglesia.
Así que espero con interés, trabajar con mi amigo, el Cardenal Daniel
DiNardo, y con todos mis hermanos obispos, para servir a la familia
de Dios aquí en Estados Unidos.
En especial, espero con interés trabajar en el Quinto Encuentro y
en la Convocatoria del Gozo del Evangelio en las Américas. Ambas
iniciativas traerán grandes bendiciones a nuestra Iglesia y nos
ayudarán a inspirar y elevar a una nueva generación de discípulos
misioneros.
También es una alegría y una bendición que mi hermano, el Obispo
Auxiliar Robert Barron de Los Ángeles, fuera elegido hoy para ser el
presidente de la Comisión Episcopal de Evangelización y Catequesis.
Estoy feliz por él y sé que él ayudará a los obispos a hacer grandes
cosas para avanzar la misión de la Iglesia.
Estos son tiempos desafiantes para la Iglesia en nuestra sociedad.
Pero vamos con Dios y cada católico sabe que tenemos una gran
misión, compartir las buenas nuevas sobre Dios y contarles a nuestros
hermanos y hermanas sobre su misericordia y su bello plan para
nuestras vidas y para nuestro mundo.
También tenemos que continuar nuestra importante obra para que
nuestra sociedad respete la santidad y dignidad de cada persona,
desde el bebé en el vientre, hasta el inmigrante que no tiene
“papeles”, hasta el anciano y el desahuciado.
Así que yo estoy confiando todo a Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe y
estoy agradecido por esta oportunidad para proclamar el gozo del
Evangelio y ayudar a construir el Reino de Dios aquí en los Estados
Unidos y por todas las Américas.
