Government decision to wind-up T-QUAL will not affect Star Ratings scheme
Quality-based criteria underpin independent ratings
$1m advertising budget to promote scheme and licensees
The Federal Government’s decision to wind-up the National Tourism Accreditation Framework and
T-QUAL Tick will not affect the Star Rating scheme.
According to GM Damien Hanger, the “Stars” now stand alone as the most recognised independent
mark of quality accommodation standards in the Australian tourism industry.
“We represent the most recognised and truly independent mark of quality standards in the
Australian tourism industry and accommodation sector,” he said.
“85% of Australian travellers recognise or use the Stars when choosing accommodation which is a
vast improvement on the results achieved by Austrade and the T-QUAL Tick.”
In 2011 the Star Rating introduced quality-based criteria in direct support of the National Long Term
Tourism Strategy and the Tourism 2020 vision.
“Irrespective of Austrade’s decision, Stars will continue to support accommodation operators
committed to improving our competitive advantage through quality tourism experiences.”
Star Ratings Australia is owned by the Australian Auto Clubs – the NRMA, RACV, RACQ, RAC, RAA and
RACT – and will invest $1m to advertise and promote the scheme and lift awareness of the “Stars” as
an independent mark of quality accommodation standards.
