Spring Picture Day: We have Spring Pictures

Name: _____________________________________________________________________________
Spring Picture Day: We have Spring Pictures on Tuesday, March 25th. If you would like your child to take
spring pictures, you can select a package and return the envelope – with money in it - to school with your
child. This picture day is not a school wide picture day. Only students who are paying for pictures will be allowed to take pictures.
Open House: We invite you to Open House in Room 4 on Wednesday, March 19th! To accommodate
work schedules, we will have two sessions. You can come in and visit our room from 8 am to 12 pm and
again in the afternoon from 5:30 pm to 7 pm! Come see all the wonderful things your child has accomplished in 1st grade!
Wacky Wednesday: Superhero Day! Please make sure your child is aware of what superhero they are
dressed as. Please do not send your child in free dress if they are not participating in Wacky Wednesday! Be as creative as you’d like; dress like Superman, Iron Man, Wonder Woman, OR create your own
superhero… Superkid? Wonder Girl? 
Reminder: If you have not done so already, please send the re-enrollment application to school with your
child. We are starting to reserve spots for current students. If you are not planning on returning to
Barack Obama Charter School, you must indicate that on the re-enrollment form. If you have misplaced it
or did not receive one, please ask Mr. Gil or myself for another copy.
Reminder: There is no school on Monday, March 31st!
Every day: Read to or with your child for a minimum of 20 minutes each

Monday
We have made the focus
words for this week into
flashcards. Please have
your child cut them out
and read them to or with
you. Have them save the
cards in a safe place so
that they can use them
later in the week. These
do not have to be turned
in on Friday; they should
be kept at home for
constant review.

Tuesday
“In the Cupboard”
Open a cupboard and
take turns with your
scholar finding and
reading sight words from
our weekly list. Keep going
until you run out of words,
time, or things in the
cupboard.
Wednesday
“Rainbow Write”
Have students write the
words on a sheet of paper
- if you do not have any
available please let me
know and I can send some
home with your child!
Once the words are
written in pencil, have
students choose 3
different color crayons.
Students will trace their
words with the different
colors. In the end, students
will have written the word
four times over.

Thursday
“Newspaper, Magazine,
Book (etc.) Find”
Very similarly to the
Tuesday night cupboard
activity, have your scholar
simply look through a type
of printed material (for
example: a newspaper
page, a magazine, a book,
manuals, a toy box,
brochures, etc) to find
and read the sight words
for the week.

Dear Families,
I have noticed that many students are neglecting their spelling practice in the homework. Please remember that
we are taking weekly spelling tests and it would benefit your scholar to practice their words on a daily basis. Use
this trace and write sheet as an additional resource for practicing our words. This page is optional.
