La poliomyélite en Europe, 1942-1943
Poliomyelitis in Europe, 1942-1943
Nous avons déjà commenté (Releve Epidémiolo­
gique Hebdomadaire, 17, n° 44* 246-250, 29 oct.
1942) la tendance de la poliomyélite en Europe au
cours des premières années de la guerre actuelle,
et montré que dans la plupart des pays belligérants
une augmentation s’était produite dans le niveau
endémique de la maladie, sans l ’apparition toute­
fois de véritables épidémies sur une grande échelle
Le tableau ci-apres constitue une mise a jour des
chiffres disponibles pour chaque pays depuis 1939;
i l comporte également, dans un but de comparai­
son, les chiffres médians pour les 1 1 années précé­
dentes Le lecteur y verra aisément, pour chaque
cas, les variations saisonnières et la tendance géné­
rale de la maladie.

tendance est à la dim inution en Allemagne, îlahe,
Hongrie et Finlande, pays où la fréquence de la
maladie était élevée; en Angleterre et en Ecosse,
où elle était basse
We may merely point out the downward tendency
of the disease m Germany, Italy, Hungary and

Une frequence élevée de la maladie doit par contre
être signalée pour YEire, où les chillies eni egisliés
à la fin de 1942 dépassaient nettement ceux des
années précédentes et où le niveau endémique s’est
maintenu relativement élevé pendant la première
moitié de 1943
H ig h prevalence on the other hand must be men­
tioned w ith regard to Eire, where previous records
were broken at the end of 1942 and the endemic
level maintained comparatively high during the
first half of 1943.
U n Fiance, la poliom yélite semble avoir sévi de
façon étendue en 1943 aans plusieurs provinces,
en particulier dans le sud et le sud-ouest du pays.
Les chiffres officiels disponibles ne sont cependant
pas très élevés.
In France, poliom yelitis appears to have been
widespread in 1943 m a numbei of p i ovinces,
p a rtic u la ily in the south and the south west,
although official available figures are not high
E n Suède, une forte augmentation de la fre­
quence de la poliomyélite s'est manifestée en août
1943, avec 380 cas (y compris 247 paralytiques),
contre un chiffre médian de 8~3 La maladie parais­
sait particulièrement répandue dans les provinces
de Biekinge et Malmo E n septembre, la maladie
s'étendait aux provinces de Kalm ar, Kroneberg et
Knstianstads
In Sweden, a sharp rise in poliom yelitis incidence
has occuried m August 1943, w ith 381 cases (in ­
cluding 247 paralytic cases), against a median of
only 83 The disease seems to be p a itic u la rly pre­
valent m the provinces of Blekmge and Malmo
In September the disease was spreading to the
provinces of Kalm ar, Kroncberg and Knstianstads
