OVERVIEW
Australian Parliament House
required an upgrade to all
kitchens and the staff dining
room kitchen. The project
included demolition of the
existing kitchen, layout
changes and installation of new
extraction hood, equipment
and finishes throughout, as
well as the construction of a
new office and training room
facility.
MINIMUM DISRUPTION
It was vital that SHAPE
followed the Department
of Parliamentary Services’
(DPS)processes and
procedures at all times to
minimise the project’s impact
on stakeholders. There
was to be minimal to zero
disturbance to the operations
of the staff dining room area
which is utilised frequently by
politicians.
To ensure noise and dust
control, SHAPE sealed off the
project site where possible
and arranged for noisy work
to occur outside of office
hours. Early engagement
of stakeholders assisted
and consistent managing
of enquiries aided minimal
disruption and ensured
constant communication
throughout the project.
The client also required
SHAPE to manage the project
discreetly so as to not attract
and media attention. Minimal
signage was used in public
areas to ensure minimal focus
on the project.
SHAPE ensured that trade
contractors adhered to all
the security and logistical
requirements of Parliament
House. All contractors were
sent the Department of
Parliamentary Services’ site
book, inducted to the site
with special mention of DPS’
procedures, and reminded
of the special requirements
at weekly subcontractor
meetings.
