Dear Year 5 White Parents,
Welcome to Year 5 2015. I am writing to you at the start of this year to introduce myself,
give you some indication of the topics I will be teaching throughout the year and provide
some general information you may find helpful. My name is Mrs Kate Sadaj and I look
forward to working with you and your child.
Subject Units: A table of Key Learning Area topics for each term is attached to this letter.
Supplies: All children are required to have the following materials at school and it would be
appreciated if they were checked continuously to ensure your child always has an adequate
supply. Please ensure children have:
-
Blue and Red Pens (The first ones will be supplied)
Grey Lead Pencils (One will be supplied at the start of the year)
Colouring in Pencils / Textas (if they wish)
Ruler (One will be supplied at the start of the year)
Glue (There will be some class supplies when required)
Paint shirt (If they do not have one at school)
Library Bag
Books: As part of our bookwork policy, please ensure all books are covered so they remain
in good condition throughout the year. The children’s books have been sent home
previously. Each book should have the child’s name, class year and subject displayed
clearly for easy identification.
Library: Year 5 White Library borrowing day is Wednesday. Please ensure your child has
his / her books returned and their library bag at school each week.
Crunch ‘n’ Sip: We have crunch ‘n’ sip each day at 10am.
Absent Notes: If your child is absent from school for either a whole day or part of, please
supply us with an absent note on their return stating the reason for this absence. A note
prior to extended leave such as a holiday is required to the Principal.
Homework: Homework will be sent home each Monday and is due Friday. The homework
will comprise of Reading, Spelling, English and Maths and consolidate content from other
KLA’s where appropriate. Homework will at times, be formatted in a similar way to NAPLAN
style questions in order to prepare children for the NAPLAN tests this year.
Each child will receive a Home Reader booklet and they are encouraged to read
consistently throughout the week. Children are to document the date, title of the reading
material and parents can write a comment or sign this register. Children are permitted to
read any form of text!
If your child experiences any difficulty with regard to homework please see me.
Diaries: Every child has been given a student diary. This is to come to school each day.
Diaries will be signed and checked by the teacher each Friday and can act as a form of
communication between the parents and teacher. It is your child’s responsibility to write in
their diary.
Excursions: Year 5 White will be attending excursions throughout the year. Parents will be
notified by note when the time comes.
Tuesday of Odd Weeks: Mrs Sarah Richards will be teaching each Tuesday of weeks 3, 5,
7 & 9 this term. This is due to a shared 0.05 REC role for this year.
I hope you and your child have a very enjoyable year. If you have any concerns throughout,
please arrange an appointment to speak with me. I look forward to supporting your child
during 2015.
Kind Regards,
Kate Sadaj & Sarah Richards
