Quilt Made from Fall Festival T-Shirts
This is a priceless opportunity to own a piece of the Madeleine history.
This quilt (40” x 51.1”) was assembled and sewn by Holly Boss
(Madeleine Faculty 1983-2013) and consists of 12 of the earliest Fall
Festival T-shirts. The Fall Festival was started in 1984, when Holly’s
husband, John, was the president of the PA. The quilt’s background plaid
is from the uniform skirt of their daughter Liz (class of ’92; Madeleine
faculty ’02 – ’06). The yellow patch in the center was worn on the pocket
of big brother Alex’s (class of ’88) uniform sweater in the early years.
There are 3 tabs pinned on the upper edge back for hanging the quilt
on a rod, and will be permanently sewn on by the quilt maker, if
requested.

Behind-the-Scenes Tour of UC Berkeley’s Phoebe Hearst Museum of
Anthropology’s Ancient Egypt (And More!) Collection.
Phoebe Hearst met George A. Reisner on her first trip to Egypt in early
1899. While the American Egyptologist had no excavating experience at
this time, Hearst had faith in his abilities and sent him to work immediately. With several assistants and a
large and skilled Egyptian crew, Reisner explored multiple sites. Much of the work was salvage, following in
the wake of looters. Between 1899 and 1905, Reisner collected approximately 17,000 cataloged objects.
Including items that he purchased as well as those donated by Phoebe Hearst, these range in time from the
Predynastic to Coptic times (over 4,000 years), with about three-quarters coming from the Predynastic and
Old Kingdom periods. (In fact, the Predynastic collection is the largest outside of Egypt.)

inspires me. Although beauty is in the eye of the beholder I believe there
is beauty in all.
