STAF which stands for Svensk Teknisk Audiologi Förening is an annual gathering of experts within field of
technical Audiology in Sweden. Researchers from various relevant disciplines such as Audio signal
processing, Hearing-aid designing, Psychoacoustics, cognitive-psychology from all over the country as
well as Denmark attended this meeting.
STAF 2011 was held in Norrlands Nation a fine historical building in the city of Uppsala; A city very well
known for its old and prestigious university which is regarded as the first university of the whole
Scandinavia taking its roots from 1400s. The good choice of place gave a rich character to this meeting.
STAF 2010 included oral presentations in the relevant fields from 24 till 26 March. On the second day
there were some parallel sessions where 3 members of HEAD Birgitta Larsby, Niklas Rönnberg and Amin
Saremi performed their presentations in the main hall. Birgitta talked about speech in noise, Amin
introduced his cochlear signal-transmission model as well as Niklas who presented some results of his
project on listening effort.
During the coffee breaks, representatives from some companies working in the field of audiology had
their chance to introduce their products / services to the participants. Therefore, the researchers could
see measurement devices they might need for carrying out their studies as well as new rehabilitation
products for hearing impaired people promoted by the attending companies.
