Spring 1 2017 EYFS Curriculum Monday – Weekend News shared in Key Worker Groups Wednesday – Homework shared in Key Worker Groups Friday – library books changed with Key Worker Groups We have begun Spring 1 by writing letters to say thank you for our favourite Christmas presents and retelling our favourite events of Christmas in sequence. Much of our literacy work this half term is likely to focus on using our phonics skills to blend and segment for the purpose of improving our developing reading and writing skills.....lots of 'chopping up' words, applying 'sound buttons' to words and using 'phoneme frames' to aid our learning. The choice of texts used will be very much guided by the children's likes and interests as we will read a number of 'winter' books at the start of term to immerse us into a wintery theme. Parents can help their children with their literacy targets by helping them to use their phonics skills to write words which match the sounds they say. Writing simple phrases and sentences will help to develop pupil's use of phonics even further. Our numeracy learning has started with us focussing on money - working in and buying from toy shops selling some fantastic bargains! Later this half term we plan to focus on time, 2D shape and data, addition, patterns and symmetry and counting. Many of the continuous provision activities are linked to the numeracy theme for the week so again the children will consolidate their learning through fun, play-based activities. Resources Request Our early years setting is extremely well resourced but we continually strive to improve our provision and deliver the best experiences for our pupils. Our team are working on a ‘quality mark’ and when self-assessing our provision we have identified areas for additional ‘real’ resources that reflect children’s home life experiences. In the past we have found that families, friends and members of the wider school community have donated good quality resources to us that they no longer had use for. All donations have been received with thanks. With both the improvements and our current reception class in mind the following items would help to meet some of the identified needs: ‘Real’ builders tools, signs, equipment Wooden, plastic or metal pots, pans, utensils, kettles, jugs, Baskets – any size or shape! Family Learning – Phonics session Monday 30/1/17 1-3pm All EYFS/KS1 parents, carers, grandparents welcome!!!! Reading books should be read each evening with your child. Usually books will be changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday if your child is ready for a new book. Please send them into school every day though just in case this changes! …to send in 20p each day if you would like your child to have toast at break time. ….children can have a drink of water whenever they like. Please don’t send in water bottles for the classroom. …to keep us informed of any food allergies. High Frequency Words Please look out for copies of the high frequency word lists in your child’s book bag. These are words that the children ideally need to know how to read, spell and use appropriately in sentences by the end of Reception. They will be colour coded – red, orange and green lists – so that the children know which list they are working on and which list they are trying to make it to!
