PRE-ALGEBRA 1 Semester Class This course is designed for students who will be entering high school in August and whose math skills need to be improved. This Course is taken in conjunction with Basic English Skills. BASIC ENGLISH SKILLS 1 Semester Class A course designed for students who will be entering high school in August and whose English skills need to be improved. This Course is taken in conjunction with Pre-Algebra. ALGEBRA I (HONORS) 2 Semester Class This course is only open to students who have been placed in geometry for the Fall of 2012, who did not meet the minimum qualifying score on the geometry readiness test given in May of 2012, at St. Augustine High School. MUSICAL THEATRE WORKSHOP June 18–22, 8:00 AM–12:30 PM For Boys and Girls, Grades 1– 8, Fee: $185 A week of exploring the world of musical theatre. Students will have acting, singing, and dance workshops where they will have fun and learn skills at the same time. The weeks activities will culminate in a free performance for the parents. ARTS AND CRAFTS FOR KIDS NEW THIS YEAR! June 25-29, 2012 8AM -12PM For Boys and Girls, Ages 6-11, Fee: $185 This summer, the arts & crafts camp will be exploring a variety of media. Students will be taught technical skills and create fun, personal works of art. The camp will have a new theme every day with interesting topics like "Under the Sea." Students will complete projects they can take home daily. FUN WITH PHOTOS & MIXED MEDIA 3-D NEW THIS YEAR! June 18-22, 2012 8AM to 11AM For Boys and Girls, Ages 12-14, Fee: $195 Students will learn a little bit about what makes a good photograph and how to digitally create works of art with them. We will also build a 3-D mixed media project complete with lighting! This is not a “how to work your camera class,” Students should know how to use their cameras – no cell phone cameras. Class is limited to 9 students and you must register by June 1, 2012 Bring your camera, USB connection cord and walking shoes! COLLEGE APPLICATION WORKSHOPS Please Specify “Session” on Registration Form. SESSION SESSION SESSION SESSION 1: 2: 3: 4: August 6–10, 8:00–11:30 August 6–10, 12:30–4:00 August 13–17, 8:00–11:30 August 13–17, 12:30–4:00 Fee For Saints Students: $235. Fee For Non - Saints Students: $450. This five-day course is designed for rising seniors. Students will organize and develop a calendar, complete a resume, register for tests, refine a college list and research their chosen colleges, start a scholarship search, work on UC, CSU and Common College Applications and personalize such activities as NCAA and FAFSA. COURSES FOR CREDIT The following three “REVIEW” courses are offered only to students who have received a below average grade in Algebra I, Algebra II, or Geometry during the regular school year. They will be taught by utilizing the on–line “ALEKS” program. In addition to the standard Academic Registration Fee, of $30., (see:“Registration Information”) there is a $50. Computer Program Fee for the “ALEKS.” ALGEBRA I REVIEW 1 or 2 Semester Class as needed The student learns the fundamentals of solving problems by methods not previously available at the arithmetic level. ALGEBRA IIREVIEW 1 or 2 Semester Class as needed This second year algebra course reviews the algebraic concepts developed in the previous algebra courses. GEOMETRY REVIEW 1 or 2 Semester Class as needed This course reviews geometric concepts developed in the previous algebra course. BIOLOGY 2 Semester Class This course is a college prep investigative laboratory oriented course with emphasis on basic structural, physiological, ecological, evolutionary and genetic principals as they pertain to living organisms. It is designed to present the biological world to students and satisfies the graduation requirement for one year of high school laboratory science. CHEMISTRY 2 Semester Class This course is designed to cover one year of high school chemistry. Atomic and molecular structure, the gas laws, chemical reactions, as well as carbon and its components are included. CIVICS June 17– July 6 1 Semester Class A one-semester course covering the origins, development and politics of the American system of national, state and local governments in the world arena. ECONOMICS July 9– July 27 1 Semester Class A survey of the basic principles and concepts of economics including comparative economic systems, microeconomics, macroeconomics, and international economics. Fulfills the State requirement in Economics for graduation. REMEDIAL SPANISH 1 or 2 Semester Class as needed Spanish I presents beginning Spanish grammar and conversation and an introduction to Hispanic cultures. This course will target students who need to make up a below average grade from the regular school year. UNITED STATES HISTORY 2 Semester Class Prerequisite: Successful completion of Western Civilization and completion of 10th grade or AP World History. This course is a one year survey of the development of the political, social and economic institutions of the United States from the colonial roots to the present era. WORLD HISTORY 2 Semester Class This course is open to students who have not yet satisfied their Western Civilization requirement or students that are interested in learning about Western Civilization, with the intention of taking AP World History in their Sophomore year. This survey course covers a variety of topics including the growth of civilizations, Medieval, Renaissance, Industrial and Modern Ages. GEOMETRY 2 Semester Class This is a college preparatory course and is the standard geometry course concerned with the study of geometric concepts and the development of logical proofs in a formal manner. Classes which do not have sufficient enrollment may be cancelled. It is open to students who received a below average grade in any semester of the Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior Religion courses at St. Augustine High School.
