Hungering for the Journey Join our parish community—and more than 13,000 Catholic communities across the United States—in a lifechanging Lenten journey with CRS Rice Bowl. Your family’s rice bowl is included in today’s bulletin! Don’t forget to download the CRS Rice Bowl app! Remember, your Lenten sacrifices change lives. Catholic Home Missions Appeal The Catholic Home Missions Appeal will take place next week. One way that this appeal works to strengthen home mission dioceses in the United States is by funding seminarian formation in poor dioceses. The blessing of seminarians places a financial burden on these dioceses, where educating each seminarian costs $35-40K per year. Your support is needed for these young men, so that they might go back and serve their parishes. Please strengthen the Church at home by making a generous gift to next week’s appeal. Prayer for Lent Dear Jesus, You spent 40 days in the desert before you began your ministry to the world. You resisted the temptations offered by the devil, saying no to worldly pleasures and power. Like the prophets before you, 40 days in the desert was preparation for the great mission of your life. As lent begins, help us to make our lives pure and holy. Give us the grace to willingly make our own self-denials into personal deserts, which will prepare us for your work. Purify our souls in the crucible of this Lenten season, and make our hearts acceptable to you and your Father. Amen. SCRIP Order The next Scrip Order is due on Monday, March 2nd. Forms are included in today’s bulletin or available at both churches. Orders may be placed in an envelope marked “SCRIP” and dropped in the Sunday Collection Baskets. Thank you for your support of our Parish Schools! From Bishop Johnston At the October 23, 2014, meeting of the Presbyteral Council, it was recommended that the amount offered for Mass stipends be increased from $5 to $10. I accepted that recommendation and approve the increase effective July 1, 2015. This change is consistent with many other dioceses that have increased the amount of the Mass stipend. Because many parishioners request Masses to be offered for deceased relatives and friends many months prior to the celebration of these Masses. That is why I am giving you this notice so far in advance of the effective date. ST. AUGUSTINE ST. The begging leper and the paralytic dropped in, and both wanted to be cured of their ailments, including their sin. Overcoming religious fears and social customs, they made their requests. Jesus replied, “Yes, of course,” and then made the point that healing from sin and healing from disease are two sides of the same coin. Do we have courage enough to overcome worries and beg healing from the Lord in the church? If we seek sacramental reconciliation, Jesus will surely reply, “Yes, of course.” Sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time. Year B. Philip J. Sandstrom, STD © 2000, OCP. All rights reserved.
