How are selections made?
Applications are accepted until September 30, 2015. Once applications are received, they are
reviewed by the TRiO Office and the Financial Aid Office. Our program can only award to those
who qualify and those who demonstrate active participation in our TRiO program. In order to be
able to receive these funds, students must fulfill the following requirements:

Student must be in good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher and not on academic
probation or dismissal).

Student must demonstrate unmet need, and be Pell-eligible.

Student must be actively working to meet the program requirements listed on their
student personal education plan which may include:
o two mentoring appointments per semester,
o two Bay College and/or TRiO social, cultural, or 4 year transfer activities, and
2
o have started an educational portfolio, or have submitted your previous semester’s
portfolio activities.
o participate in tutoring activities during the semester.
All of these must be completed during the semester in which you applied and will be
evaluated as part of your application for Grant Aid.

A condition of receiving the award is your participation in four Financial Literacy
learning community sessions during the semester and before the awards of the grant aid.

All TRiO students can apply, even if it is your first semester in our program. TRiO
Students in their 1st and 2nd year in our program are eligible. Students who have been in
our program for more than 2 years are ineligible to apply. If you have been awarded
Grant Aid in the previous year, you are still eligible for this year, however due to our
desire to assist more students and distribute funds fairly we will consider first time
applicants over prior recipients.

Students enrolled in at least twelve (12) units at Bay College that count towards his or her
educational goal will be prioritized. Students with half time units will be considered if
there are not enough eligible full-time Grant Aid applicants.
REMEMBER: NOT ELIGIBLE for Pell grant and/or no unmet need = NOT ELIGIBLE for a
TRiO Grant!
** Please note: If you have any outstanding debt at Bay College that amount will be subtracted
from your Grant Aid award.
Following this consultation, both successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified in
writing regarding their selection status.
When will successful applicants receive their awards?
Students will receive Grant aid awards either by mail or direct deposit, if they signed up for
direct deposit with the college. Mailed checks will be sent to the student’s permanent address on
file with the college. Direct deposit can be arranged by completing a student refund direct
deposit authorization form found at this location on myBay - myBay>Current Students>Forms,
Doc, Policies.
The awards will be made toward the end of the semester provided you are still meeting the
requirements above and will take approximately 10 days for you to receive the money. The
second round of applications in the winter semester will be awarded again toward the end of the
semester provided you are still meeting the requirements above. Again it will take
approximately 10 days for you to receive the money.
