Today’s libraries are so very different from that old-fashioned image. While the library has long been a provider of information and life-long learning, it has also increasingly become a community and cultural center, a gateway to digital worlds, and a place where knowledgeable staff educate and inspire patrons about art and literature. The modern library now also serves as a neutral forum in which patrons of every stripe can engage in civil discourse. That’s the library today; now you can help us define what a library— and in particular the Talbot County Free Library—will be tomorrow. In March, we will be asking residents of Talbot County to help us create a strategic plan for the library. Together, we will imagine how the library might best serve our modern community’s needs. The plan we create will be inclusive, equitable, and far-sighted. It will establish a new vision, mission, values, and goals for the library. As part of this process, beginning in March, the library will post on its website (www.tcfl.org) an online survey for community members to fill out. We will also hold several open meetings to gather community input. Please keep an eye on our website throughout the month of March to help take part in planning our library’s future! A great library system is vital to the development and enrichment of the people it serves. The board and staff of the Talbot County Free Library committed to making yourportrait library the very best. Daffodils I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. Continuous as the stars that shine And twinkle on the milky way, They stretched in never-ending line Along the margin of a bay: Ten thousand saw I at a glance, Tossing their heads in sprightly dance. The waves beside them danced, but they Out-did the sparkling waves in glee: A poet could not be but gay, In such a jocund company: I gazed'and gazed'but little thought What wealth the show to me had brought …. —William Wordsworth— Craft Explorers Wednesday, March 15, 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. & Thursday April 20, 1:30 - 4:00 p.m. Young Gardeners Club: All About Birds Friday, March 24, 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Talbot County Garden Club.
