Stage 2 water restrictions apply Residential customers Gardens Can be watered with drinking water using a hand held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle, bucket or watering can at any time on any day. Watering systems can be used to water gardens between 6am and 8am and 6pm and 8pm on alternate watering days. Alternate watering days Stage 2 water restrictions use the alternate days system to determine watering days. This is defined as: Customers with even street numbers or no numbers may only water their gardens on dates with even numbers - for example, November 2. Customers with odd street numbers may only water their gardens on dates with odd numbers - for example, November 3. All customers can water their gardens on the 31st day of any month. Lawns and grassed areas Lawns and grassed areas cannot be watered with drinking water. Newly laid drought resistant turf or warm season grasses can be watered for 28 days using a hand held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle from the date of applying for an exemption. Pools or spas Pools and spas may be filled or topped up with drinking water by a hand held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle, watering can or bucket between 6am and 8am and 6pm and 8pm on alternate watering days or with an automatic top-up system or in accordance with a Barwon Water approved Water Use Plan. Breaches to Stage 2 water restrictions will incur fines Cars, boats and other vehicles Vehicles can be cleaned using a high pressure hose, a commercial car wash, or a watering can or bucket filled directly from a tap. Boat motors can be flushed using a container filled by a hand held hose or a flushing device connected to a hose. Hard surfaces/paved areas Must not be cleaned with drinking water unless required because of an accident, fire, health or safety hazard or other emergency. Please notify Barwon Water should you require to do this. Building façade and windows Can be cleaned using a bucket filled directly from a tap. Fountains or water features Can be operated if water is recirculated, but must not be filled or topped up with drinking water. Ponds or lakes An existing pond or lake cannot be filled or topped up with drinking water unless it sustains aquatic fauna and/or bird life, and then only with Barwon Water approval. New ponds or lakes must not be filled with drinking water. Water toys Toys operated by running drinking water supplied through a hose must not be used. Public customers Public lawns Must not be watered with drinking water at any time. Public gardens Can be watered using a hand held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle, watering cans or bucket at any time, on any day. Watering systems can only be used to water gardens between 6am and 8am and 6pm and 8pm on alternate watering days. Sportsgrounds Particular playing surfaces can be watered with a hand held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle, bucket or watering can at any time on any day. Particular playing surfaces can only be watered using a watering system between 6am and 8am and 6pm and 8pm on alternate watering days. Any general playing surfaces must not be watered with drinking water without a Barwon Water approved Water Use Plan. What is a particular playing surface? Particular playing surfaces include turf wickets, golf tees and greens, lawn tennis courts and bowling greens. For a complete list of surfaces and their definitions, please visit our website. Commercial customers Commercial lawns Must not be watered with drinking water at any time. Commercial gardens Can be watered with drinking water using a hand held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle, bucket or watering can at any time on any day. Watering systems can be used to water gardens between 6am and 8am and 6pm and 8pm. Commercial market gardens or plant nurseries Can be watered with drinking water using a hand held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle, bucket or watering can at any time on any day. Commercial car washes Can operate if they use no more than 100 litres of drinking water for every vehicle washed (car wash must have been built prior to July 1, 2012) or if they use less than 70 litres of drinking water for every vehicle washed (car wash must have been built on or after July 1, 2012) or in accordance with a Barwon Water approved Water Use Plan. Motor vehicle dealers Vehicles may only be cleaned on alternate watering days using a high pressure water cleaning device, a commercial car wash, a watering can or bucket filled directly from a tap or in accordance with a Barwon Water approved Water Use Plan. Mobile spas Mobile spas may be filled with drinking water in accordance with a Barwon Water approved Water Use Plan. Water tankers May be filled or topped up only if the tanker is supplying water to be used inside a dwelling, or for fire fighting, stock watering, construction, dust suppression or other public health purposes. Food transport vehicles The interior can only be cleaned using a high pressure water cleaning device or hand held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle if cleaning is necessary to ensure public safety.
