INTRODUCTION TO SPANISH SYLLABUS
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Students are introduced to infinite verbs, learn the phonic pronunciation of the Spanish
alphabet, memorize popular modes of expressions through song, and build a basic
vocabulary.
EXPECTATIONS AND GOALS
Week 1 MY NAME IS – Students learn to pronounce, read and write their names in
Spanish. We craft name art, introduce ourselves, and act out salutations and greetings.
Week 2 COGNATES – Students are introduced to words that look and sound similar in
both languages. We introduce the alphabet through song. Vocabulary List: Cognates.
Week 3
VERBS – Students are introduced to the er- verb “querer,” the ar-verb
“necesitar,” and the ir- verb “preferir.” Vocabulary List: Cooked Foods.
Week 4 ARTICLES – Students learn the difference between feminine and masculine
nouns using the correct articles (un, unos, una, unas.) Vocabulary List: Beverages.

Week 5 IDIOMS – Students learn popular modes of expression and focus on phonic
pronunciation. Vocabulary List: Fruits and Vegetables.
Week 6 ROLE PLAY – Students are assigned roles for a performance piece.
We review
past material and get acquainted with and rehearse lines. Home-study required.
Week 7 DRESS REHEARSAL – Students rehearse for the skit.
Week 8 SHOWTIME! – Students perform a skit before classmates, friends and family
to showcase their acquired language skills.

She holds a BA Degree from the University of
Maryland at College Park in Linguistics and
Foreign Languages. Rayna began her homeschool journey in 2011 and founded a nonprofit in 2014 to serve the community. She
lives in Marriottsville, MD with her husband
and two, young sons.
