A
group from Arp ISD represented our school well at the
East Texas Library Summit at Lon Morris College in January. Those presenting sessions were Sharon Keith, Gretchen
Rayburn, Debbie Taliaferro, Lana Brady and Sandra Chesshir.
I received lots of positive comments about our school district
and what we are doing in our libraries to promote reading.
There were over 170 librarians there and the word truly got out
about Arp. They were impressed with our TAKS scores on all
campuses and had lots of questions about what we are doing.
They were impressed with our “community” atmosphere and
how we all work together. They were impressed with our
“reading culture” we have here at Arp on all levels including
teachers and staff.

Dalton Line will be having heart
surgery on April 22nd. The Elementary and Jr. High campuses were
allowed to wear blue jeans for a $1
a day for one week. The high
school got to wear hats for $1 a day
for a week. Together we collected
over $1973.00. We recognized Dalton at jump start and gave him and
his mother the money. The bank is
also collecting money for him.
We have another student that is
very ill. Ty Phillips is in the 5th
grade, has already had a stroke
and is now having trouble regulating his temperature and fighting off infections. The Elementary & Jr High are wearing blue
jeans again next week to raise
money. HS, check with your administrators.
Congratulations to these
students for receiving

We’ve Got The Power!
T
his past weekend the AHS power-lifters competed at the Bullard invitational meet. Highlights from the meet include Pam Williams
winning 1st in her weight class, she was awarded best
lifter on the heavy platform and unofficially broke the
regional dead-lift record, of 425 pounds!
On the guys side Zach Howard also won his
weight class, with a total of 1360, and he also has qualified to compete at the Regional meet in Rusk, Texas,
on March 5th. His teammate Chris Jeffus will also
compete at the Regional meet and hopefully it will be
those two taking the two top spots in 198 weight class
all the way to the state meet.
Thank you booster club for taking care of my lifters!!!
(Kimmie Everett)
The Arp Junior High
and High School FCAs
took over 60 students
to do community service in three nursing
homes in December.
They had many assignments such as giving
patients water and
snacks, cleaning storage rooms, setting up
for banquets and visiting with patients. After
the nursing home visits
and service, the students spread across
Tyler in three different
locations to aid the Salvation Army in their
annual
Kettle
Drive. The bells were
ringing steadily for two
hours.
Congratulations to Pam Williams!!! She is
the 2011 Region III-181 Champion! Pam was
awarded the Outstanding Best Overall Lifter of
the meet and was also the Outstanding Best
Overall Dead-lifter. Pam broke two regional
records! She set the squat record at 400lbs and
985lbs in the total. Pam also won 3rd place as
team at the meet as well! Pam will compete at
the State meet on March 19th, in Corpus Christi
for the 2A and overall composite title in
Texas. Way to go Pammie!
Congratulations!

AISD Teachers Make Presentations at TCEA
Fourteen teachers from AISD recently attended the Texas
Computer Education Association Convention in Austin.
Four of them gave presentations to highlight what our students
are doing with the net-book 1 to1 initiative. These teachers
demonstrated best practices to TEA and teachers from all
over. You can be proud of how your district was represented s
we continue to lead the way in technology!

We want to congratulate the Arp Tiger basketball team in putting up a
tough battle with Kountze. Hold your head up and be proud!!! I still have some medium shirts left and if you are still interested I will sell them at a discount.
I must say the Softball and Baseball teams have gotten off to a rocky
start, but the weather hasn't cooperated much in the last few weeks to allow much
practice time.
The Lady Tiger Softball team is working hard in spite of the injuries that
have kept several players from participating. We need to get them healthy and
back on the field. They will be competing in the Longview Tournament beginning
this Thursday. We wish you luck.
The Tiger Baseball team competed this past weekend in the Chapel Hill
Tournament with 1 win and 2 losses. They will be competing this weekend in the
Grand Saline Tournament beginning Thursday. Good luck to you as well.
We will be having our monthly Athletic Booster Club meeting this coming Monday,
March 7th, at 6:00 in Coaches office. Hope you can make it.
We are doing concession for the softball and baseball games, if anyone is interested
in helping out contact me.
T
he month of January was a busy, and successful month for the Arp FFA. 3 members attended the Mineola FFA District Convention held at Canton High School where we elected
our next year’s officer team and our Area Officer Candidate.
On the 20th of January we braved the frigid temperatures and competed in the Southwestern
Exposition and Livestock Show with Heifers. This was by far our best outing at Ft. Worth in many
years. Matt Hugo got us started out right when he placed 3rd out of a class of 23 with a Beefmaster
heifer. Ben and Hannah Van Winkle placed 7th each with a Hereford and Charolais heifer. Brady Hill
placed 11th with his Brahman Scramble heifer, and Ross Thorn rounded us out in the heifer division
with a 3rd place Limousin heifer. Ross also participated in the Steer show 2 weeks later during the
“Great Ice Storm” of 2011. He placed 8th out of 73 hd in the Heavy Lightweight class with his 1080lb
steer, and made the sale.
Congratulations to all of these participants and good luck at Houston. Houston will be during
Spring Break for the Heifers, and we will be attending the Area VI FFA Convention on Feb. 21. Our
upcoming events include the Smith County Junior Livestock show in Tyler March 31-April 2.
Come out and support these students as they take class room lessons and apply them to real
world activities. ―As we mingle with others let us be diligent in labor, just in our dealings, and
above all honest and fair in the game of life.‖
