La Epifanía
The story of the Wise Men bringing gifts to Jesus, the
newborn King, is a great one, isn't it? They had a great big
star in the sky to lead the way. I am no Boy Scout, so I am
not sure how well I would do following a star like that. But
the important point here is that God led them to the manger.
The manger was a place that unless God specifically
showed you this was where the Christ Child was born you
wouldn't have believed it. You would have passed on by.
In our lives, there are no big stars in the sky leading us
where we need to go. It isn't so easy sometimes discerning
where God is leading us. We may seek to use our gifts
wisely, but in what manner and to what end is not always
clear.
This is where prayer can make a huge difference. If we
seek to cultivate a prayer life where we are mindful of the
presence of God throughout our day, then the call is easier
to discern. We can help the process by intentionally offering
to God in the morning the entirety of the day to come: all
our actions, all our time, and all our decisions. In the evening, we can examine the past hours of the day and reflect
on when we responded well to Christ's call and when we fell
short. Then we resolve to begin again tomorrow, inviting
Christ to be with us every step of the way. God may not
offer a star in the sky to lead us, but if we invite us on
our journey each day, the path will be much clearer.

El cuento de los Reyes Magos cuando le llevan los regalos
a Jesús, el Rey recién nacido, es uno fantástico, ¿no? Tenían
una estrella brillante en el cielo que les mostró el camino.
No soy Boy Scout, así que no estoy seguro si yo podría seguir una estrella. Pero el punto importante es que Dios los
llevó al pesebre. Usted no hubiera creído usted que el pesebre fue el lugar en que el niño Cristo iba nacer si Dios no le
hubiera mostrado el camino. Probablemente usted hubiera
pasado el pesebre.
En nuestras vidas, no hay estrellas brillantes en el cielo
que nos guían. No es fácil determinar a dónde nos lleva
Dios. Es posible que queramos usar nuestros dones sabiamente, pero en qué manera y con qué fin no siempre es obvio.
Aquí la oración hace una gran diferencia. Si queremos
cultivar una vida contemplativa en que somos conscientes de
la presencia de Dios a lo largo del día, es más fácil contestar
determinar el llamado. Podemos promover el proceso si cada
mañana ofrecemos intencionalmente nuestros días enteros:
todas nuestras acciones, todo nuestro tiempo, y todas nuestras decisiones. Por la tarde, podemos examinar las horas
pasadas del día y reflexionar en nuestros éxitos y fracasos en
contestar al llamado de Cristo. Después resolvemos a empezar otra vez mañana, invitando a Cristo a estar con nosotros
por cada paso. Dios no nos va a ofrecer una estrella como
guía en el cielo, pero si lo invitamos a nuestro viaje cada
día, el camino será más claro.

An epiphany is a moment of revelation, a
moment that can occur when something
unexpected happens, or when something
completely unexpected breaks into our lives.
I'm sure many of you have had little
epiphanies throughout your lives. But the
epiphany we celebrate today is a celebration of
God's all-inclusive love. God is stretching us to
see that God works around our boundaries.
God's glory shines upon all people and not just
the chosen ones and us Christians.
Una epifanía es una revelación, cuando
algo inesperado sucede, o que pase algo
inesperado en nuestras vidas. Estoy segura
que ustedes han tenido varias epifanías en
sus vidas. Pero la epifanía que celebramos
hoy se trata del amor total de Dios. Dios nos
revela que él puede trabajar más allá de nuestros
límites. La Gloria de Dios brilla sobre todas las
personas, no sólo a los elegidos ni tampoco sólo
con los Cristianos.
How many times has your faith been challenged
when you see someone of another faith acting
out of God's unbounded love. Today's feast
offers the essential insight that we cannot limit
God's love. Let us pray that our God will bless
all our people and help them to be beacon's of
God's unbounded love and truth. We all need
that in these unsettling times.
¿Cuántas veces han cuestionado la fe cuando
ven a alguien más de diferente fe actuando con
el amor abundante de Dios. La festividad del
día de hoy nos ofrece un entendimiento que
nosotros no podemos limitar el amor de Dios.
Recemos para que todos los pueblos sean
bendecidos por Dios y que sean una luz del
amor sin límites de Dios. Todos lo necesitamos
en estos tiempos difíciles.

dispelled. God is with us and knows
every aspect of what it means to be
truly human.

Understanding the Epiphany
Question:
In our church, on the feast of Epiphany, we write the initials
C+M+B over the doorway, what does this stand for or
mean?
Comprendiendo la Epifanía
Pregunta:
En nuestra iglesia, en la fiesta de la Epifanía, escribimos las
iniciales C + M + B sobre la puerta, ¿qué significan las iniciales?
Answer:
Epiphany, like Christmas, is celebrated in various ways by
different nationalities and cultures. The customs and traditions surrounding these days give them a distinct feel and
meaning.

La Epifanía, como la Navidad, es celebrada de diversas maneras por diferentes nacionalidades y culturas. Las costumbres y tradiciones que rodean estos días les dan una sensación y un significado distintos.
In many Slavic traditions, Epiphany is observed by marking
the year on the mantle of the entrance to a room or house.
In the center of the year are the initials of the traditional
names of the three Wise Men: Caspar, Melchior, and
Balthasar. An alternative explanation asserts that the initials
stand for the Latin "Christus Mansionem Benedicat,"
"Christ bless this house." Regardless of the interpretation,
the purpose is to ask God's blessing on the home, marking it
as though the Wise Men had come and found therein the
Christ Child. It also recalls the marking of the doorways in
Egypt with the blood of the lamb so that the angel of death
would pass over. God's blessing comes to each home as a
source of protection and grace.
En muchas tradiciones eslavas, la Epifanía se observa marcando el año en el manto de la entrada a una habitación o
casa. En el centro del año están las iniciales de los nombres
tradicionales de los tres Sabios: Caspar, Melchor y Baltazar.
Una explicación alternativa afirma que las iniciales representan el latín "Christus Mansionem Benedicat", "Cristo bendiga esta casa". Independientemente de la interpretación, el
